Where to stay in Siem Reap

Where you stay in Siem Reap matters more than you might think. Because if you are planning an Angkor Wat sunrise — which you absolutely should — the difference between a hotel that supports that 4am start and one that doesn’t can define your entire trip.

I know this from experience. Our hotel in Siem Reap packed us a breakfast at 3.30 in the morning, without us even asking. That kind of hospitality changes everything.

Here is a guide to where to stay in Siem Reap, from the hotel we chose to the alternatives we would consider next time.

Our Stay — Embassy Angkor Wat Hotel

This is where we stayed, and it earned every bit of our loyalty.

Embassy Angkor Wat Hotel sits close to the temples, which means a short and easy transfer for your Angkor Wat sunrise visit. But what made it exceptional was not the location — it was the service.

When we booked the Apsara dance show, the hotel coordinated our tuk tuk pick up and drop, included in the ticket price. When we came back from the temples in the afternoon, having checked out at 3.30am, the hotel gave us a temporary room to freshen up and rest — again without us asking. And when we were ready to leave for the airport, they dropped us off. Included in the hotel price.

This is the kind of quiet, thoughtful hospitality that turns a good trip into an unforgettable one.

What Embassy Angkor Wat Hotel offers:

  • Location close to the temple complex — ideal for early morning visits
  • Excellent service that goes well beyond expectations
  • Complimentary airport drop
  • Gourmet meals at the hotel restaurant — around ₹600 per person per meal, and genuinely exceptional
  • Tuk tuk coordination for excursions

If you are planning an Angkor Wat sunrise trip with family, book here. The early morning logistics become so much simpler when your hotel understands what you need.

Mid-Range Option — Angkor Breeze Hotel & Spa

If you are looking for a 4-star hotel with more amenities at a slightly different price point, Angkor Breeze Hotel & Spa is worth considering.

Located about 1.8 miles from King’s Road Angkor, it offers rooms with balconies and garden or pool views, an indoor swimming pool, a spa and wellness centre, a fitness centre, sauna and yoga classes. The property has a restaurant on site and the rooms come well-equipped with minibars, flat screen TVs and private bathrooms.

It is particularly well-placed for exploring Pub Street and the Angkor National Museum in between temple visits.

Good for: Travellers who want a resort experience alongside their temple touring.

Budget-Friendly Option — Saem Siem Reap Hotel

For travellers who want clean, comfortable accommodation without the full luxury price tag, Saem Siem Reap Hotel is a solid choice. Well-located in the city, it keeps you close to Pub Street and the Old Market while giving you a comfortable base for your temple days.

Good for: First-time visitors on a mid-budget who want to explore the city freely.

Pub Street Area — For Night Life & City Explorers

If temples are secondary and you want to be in the middle of Siem Reap’s energy — food, bars, markets, street life — then staying near Pub Street makes more sense. Options here range from boutique guesthouses to international chain hotels.

The trade-off is that you are slightly further from the temple complex, which adds to your early morning transfer time. But if you are not doing a 4am sunrise visit, the central location is hard to beat.

Practical Tips for Choosing Your Hotel

Think about your Angkor Wat plan first. If sunrise is on the agenda — and it should be — choose a hotel that is temple-adjacent, has 24-hour reception and ideally offers early morning F&B support. Not all hotels will pack you a 3.30am breakfast. The ones that do are worth paying a little more for.

Ask about tuk tuk arrangements in advance. Many hotels offer temple tour packages or can connect you with reliable tuk tuk drivers. This saves time and haggling on the morning of your visit.

Book airport transfer in advance. Some hotels like Embassy Angkor Wat include airport drop in their room rate. Confirm this at booking — it is a significant saving and removes a logistical headache.

Bring USD. Cambodia runs largely on US dollars, and hotel payments, tips and most transactions are smoother in cash.

Whatever your budget, Siem Reap has accommodation that works. But if this is your first visit and Angkor Wat is the reason you are here — which it should be — invest in a hotel that makes that 4am experience as smooth as possible. Ours did, and it was worth every rupee.
